The max is essentially free assuming you just get on and don't pay (like, everyone does it, man), and c'mon, you don't want to shell out the $26 for a cab just to sleep in the airport till check-in for your flight in the morning. Sure, Pioneer Square has the best access to the metro-free wifi. In fact, there is one spare outlet outside near the Starbucks (which also closes at 11 p.m.). The Square security guard, should he stick his very accepting and nonjudgmental nose in your business, might suggest you take your luggage and scram, that the electrical outlet is for authorized use only, and the Square center is closed unless you are waiting for a train. You might protest, but the issue is existential; in his mind, you're not waiting for your train there.

Walk up some five-odd blocks on Morrison from Pioneer Square to 12th, right on 12thover to Stark, and just on your right, salvation is at hand. It's the Roxy, Portland's kitschy 24-hour greasy spoon. Unless it's Monday. They ain't open Mondays, so you're screwed. BUT! Any other night of the week, the Roxy has wifi till dawn, and if you sit on the stool closest to the door, or farthest away from it, you might (maybe, very maybe) be able to sweet-talk the staff into letting you use an outlet. You didn't hear it from me. The (secret, by very polite request only) outlet furthest from the door might need some MacGyvering, as my laptop is currently plugged in by the grace of duct tape alone. The Roxy's fare is your standard diner grub. The Gus Van Sandwich is excellent. Word on the street is, Gus likes his with mustard.
