Rooted in questions of religion, beliefs, rituals and cults, English avant-garde designer John Glinister creates an exclusive table that is as much for the mind as it is for the eye.

John Glinister likes to challenge modern conventions. From table lamps to dog bowls, this up and coming furniture designer, based in Somerset, takes what you’d expect and stands it on its head. At just 26, John has been commissioned to create designs for companies and personal collections across Europe.

666 is one of John’s most poignant pieces to date. With 666, John has attempted to interpret fundamental questions of religion, beliefs, rituals and cults, exploring the influence of evil, or the idea that evil exists, in religious dogma. This mental experiment is reflected in the piece by the mirroring design throughout. The triangular cut across the top half of the table is reflected in the identical cut across the opposite half of the bottom. Also, the cuts appearing on the sides are diametric opposites: one side points up, while the other points down. The result is both a striking visual design effect (presenting a unique view from every angle) and a bold representation of the questions John seeks to answer through his work. added on 2008-07-30
