The Painted Bride is the mosaic-ed center of all things alternative in Philly. Tucked in the Old City, I remember my mom dragging me down here as a 10-year-old to watch things like a lesbian kabuki adaptation of Odysseus. The center holds an annual alternative arts festival as well as jazz nights, dance performances and theater. Now is an especially good time to go to Illadelph since the Philly Fringe Festival runs from September 1-16th in hundreds of venues citywide.
